Blaenau Gwent District Scouts

  Bryn Bach Parc Campsite

Bryn Bach Parc is owned by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council close to the A465 (Heads of the Valleys) road close to the Brecon Beacons. It consists of 245 hectares of grasslands, mixed woodlands and a 14-hectare man made lake.

The Parc has a Countryside Centre, which has a lakeside restaurant, tourist information centre and gift shop. The centre also has an 18-bed bunkhouse divided into four separate rooms together with self-catering facilities. The centre also has toilets and showers, which are available to the campsite, together with washing and drying facilities. In emergency the centre is also available as ‘Alternative Accommodation’ to the campsite.

The Camp Site which is being administered by Blaenau Gwent Scouts is a flat site which borders the lake. Its periphery is 486 metres and will be fenced with a 2.5 metre high screen fence, with lockable gates to the front, with access to the lake, and to the rear where a tarmac car park will be situated.

The setting up of the Camp Site is being funded by Cydcoed in conjunction with the Forestry Commission. The site will therefore be used for Daytime activities by various groups and a Forest School will be established with a shelter being erected, on site, for their use. It is expected that young people from various organisation will be involved in the construction of this shelter.

The camp site will be leased from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council for a period of 21 years, and will be available to Scouting, Guiding and other youth organizations throughout the UK and internationally and can become a showcase for Scouting within Gwent and South Wales.

Blaenau Gwent Scouts will have a secure steel container on site which will be used for the storage of canoes, for use by Scouts. The rules of our association preclude their use by Non-Members.

Camp Fees are now £2.00 per person, per night and include use of the toilet facilities at the centre. Showers, washing and drying facilities are available using a ‘Token’ system.

Access to the centre is via a coded keypad, so that access to it is available to campers outside of normal opening hours.

Activities available from Bryn Bach Parc Staff are licensed by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority and are listed as follows: -
