2021

Gwentrek

24-26 September 2021

Venue:

Type: Area Programme event

Throughout the lockdown easing we have been monitoring the restrictions, with hope that we could run a physical Gwentrek this year.

We understand for many Scouts / Explorers, the GT experience, independence and team building experience has been an important and traditional activity,  however, due to ongoing restrictions, limits on camping and Covid still being a community focus combined with the time required to set-up an event for 300 people, we have decided to organise the activity differently this year.

There will be no Gwentrek weekend this year, instead the team will publish (on GT weekend) a GT & GTx 1 day route for Groups to incorporate into their programme between October 2021 & Easter 2022. We encourage leaders to use this route to train scouts in the use of Route Cards, Navigation, Kit, as well as working in teams. While the responsibility to manage your scouts on the hike will be with the section leaders, the Land Activities team will be happy to support and accompany any groups that need additional support / guidance. We will run a Zoom session in October for any leaders to ask questions and clarify the route.  We are also looking to develop a scoring process where leaders can score their teams and we can create an Area leader board (more to follow on this).

We will announce further details on GT weekend

We hope to be back to the more traditional Gwentrek for 2022 (23 to 25 September)
